How to Organize Your Gmail Inbox with Labels?

Organizing the Gmail inbox might seem like a huge task, but it’s really not. All you need to do is to use some labels. Gmail uses labels instead of folders to keep everything organized. Here are a few tips on how to organize your Gmail inbox with labels.

To create and edit labels, you just need to visit the Labels section in Settings. This can be done via desktop or the Gmail mobile app.

You can also use a label as a folder. For that, you must use the Move to option that lets you move an email or thread out of the inbox and into a label. You can access it from the left panel of the inbox.

To keep the personal emails apart from the professional ones, you can put all the work-related emails for one client in one folder while you put personal stuff like photographs of a recent trip into another label. You can also nest labels under other labels as they will act like subfolders. Below are some steps that might help you.

How to Create a Folder in Gmail on a Desktop

·       Log in to the Gmail account by visiting the Gmail website.

·       Click on the Settings icon that’s shaped like a gear.

·       Select on see all settings.

·       Go to the Labels tab and scroll down the labels to create a new label.

·       Enter the name of the label and click on Create.

·       If you want the new label you are creating to nest under an existing label, you need to click the box that is next to the Nest label under and then select the folder you want the new label to go into.

·       The name of the labels should not be more than 225 characters.

How to Create a Folder in Gmail on the Mobile App

·       To create a folder in Gmail on the mobile app, you need to open the Gmail app on your Android, iPad, or iPhone.

·       You should then log into the account and tap the three horizontal lines that are situated on the top-left corner of the screen.

·       Then, you should scroll down to the Labels section and tap on Create New.

·       There, you will see the labels that are already there.

·       You need to scroll past the existing list of labels and then make a new one.

·       Then, you need to give it a name that must be less than 225 characters and tap on Done.

How to Automatically Apply Labels via Filtering

In your Gmail inbox, click on the Show search options icon that looks like three hatched lines. They are situated on the right side of the search bar.

Then you need to set parameters for the filter. You can filter by To, From, Subject, Has the Words, Doesn't have, Date and Size.

After setting the criteria, you can click on create filter.

On the next page, you can click the box next to Apply the label and choose a label from the drop-down menu.

The final step is to click on Create Filter.

How to Color Your Labels

To make finding labels easily, you can color them. For that, you need to follow these steps:

·       Hover the cursor over the name of the label that is situated in the left column.

·       Click on the three dots that appear on the right side of the name of the label.

·       Then, you need to hover on the label color.

·       Pick the color you want to assign to that label.

·       You can choose a basic color combination from the available options or create custom colors for the background in the text.

·       If you don’t like the colors you have added, click on the remove color option.
