In the last few years, the number of graduates in the UK has been rising steadily. Thanks to higher education, the youth now want lucrative careers and a job they actually like. As a result, youngsters are now more eager to move away from their homes and university towns to vibrant cities to start their careers or career enhancement. Here we look at the UK cities with the most employment opportunities in 2022.
The Top Two Options
According to a report shared by the Centre
for Economics & Business Research that analyzed 50 of the largest local
economies by gross value added (GVA) growth and employment, two UK cities with
two of the country's prestigious universities will see the fastest growth in
employment in Britain in 2022. They are Oxford
and Cambridge. According to the ' UK
Powerhouse ' report, both have strong innovative cultures and economies that
are rich in services and research-based firms.
Other Great Options
In addition to those mentioned above,
several other cities will also have many employment opportunities in 2022. Employment
in Oxford is expected to grow by 3.2% at the end of 2022, and about 5,000 jobs
might be created. Cambridge and Chelmsford in Essex will see year-on-year employment
growth of 2.5%. The job increases in Milton Keynes and Inner London are
expected to be almost as great.
Other names in the top 10 cities where
employment will grow in 2022 include Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh,
and Cardiff. Some small towns in the North like Wakefield, Rotherham, Stockport,
and Preston might not see much employment growth.
Cambridge, Oxford, and Milton Keynes are
expected to have year-on-year growth of 3.3% by the end of 2022 in terms of GVA.
Abundance of Positions
According to the Recruitment &
Employment Confederation (REC) 's Jobs Recovery Tracker, over 1.9 million open
positions were present in the UK in September 2021. Most of the jobs were
available in cities, but a considerable number were also spread across the north,
east, south, and west.
Most of the advertisements – 232,000 were
for the borough of the City of Westminster had the most adverts with 232,000
while Manchester had 48,000 open positions, and Birmingham had 44,600.
Berkshire and Hertfordshire had more than 39,000 vacancies each.
Though the growth was present in every locality
of the UK, Scotland had the largest increase in active job postings
week-on-week. In the top 10 greatest increases, four belonged to Scotland- Na
h-Eileanan Siar (+29.0%), Perth and Kinross and Stirling (+17.8%), and the
Shetland Islands (+21.9%).
Which Roles Are Ruling?
The tracker also looked at the roles for
which the hiring was high. Sales Account Managers and Business Development jobs
led the way as they had over 91,000 roles available. Then came the position of
nurses, which had nearly 88,000 vacancies. It was followed by programmers and
software developers at 55,000, home carers and care workers, also at 55,000,
and financial or investment analysts and advisers with 47,400 vacancies. Storage
occupations, sales executives, and bookkeepers also made it to the top 10.
