GE Aviation has announced that it has opened a new facility in Australia with an aim to provide repair, maintenance, and overhaul services for customers in the Asia-Pacific region.
It was
stated, “GE Aviation’s partnership with Brisbane Airport continues to go from strength
to strength, and we really look forward to building our relationship. This
hi-tech workshop is important for the future of the airport, and we welcome the
commitment from GE Aviation as a sign of confidence in the growth outlook.”
The cost of
this new state-of-the-art service centre is $8 million and will help GE not
only to support more customers but also expand its presence across the region.
Queensland
Assistant Minister to the Premier Bart Mellish MP officially opened the
facility in a ceremony at Brisbane Airport.
Queensland Premier Annastacia
Palaszczuk also
welcomed the boost the facility will provide to the local economy and said, “As
we know the airport’s growing here, more flights are coming back as we go into
our post-pandemic phase, and we want to make sure we set this state up for the
future, and our state has an absolutely bright future.”
He also
said, “I welcome the expansion of GE Aviation’s new facility in Brisbane, building
on aviation services based at Brisbane Airport servicing the Asia-Pacific
region. GE Aviation’s increased investment is an investment in Queensland’s
future and is a signal to young people in particular that good jobs are
available in a range of industries.”
The
facility will be the largest GE Aviation, Systems service centre in Asia-Pacific.
It will support avionics, flight management, electrical power, and DOWTY
propeller systems on several aircraft, such as the Boeing 737 and 787, Q400,
and F-50 regional aircraft. It will even help maintain the Royal Australian Air
Force’s fleet of C-130J Super Hercules and C-27J Spartan Military Transport
Aircraft.
In a

Brisbane
Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff also shared his opinion. He said, “GE Aviation’s

The new GE
facility will employ over 80 people and boost the local economy. It will also
contribute to the growth of Brisbane Airport.
Brisbane
Airport is also kicking off Stage Two of its Airport Industrial Park. Martin
Ryan, BAC Executive General Manager Commercial, said, “The demand here for
commercial development at Brisbane Airport is unbelievable. It’s the biggest
we’ve ever seen. We’ve got more developments underway than we’ve ever had, over
12 developments under construction at the moment. Another 100 hectares will be
available over the next 10 years. Brisbane Airport is an amazingly connected
place to The Port of Brisbane, the city, and the freeways north and south. And
of course, there’s a runway out the back which allows people to import and
export goods in and out of Brisbane and Queensland.”
