Q & A With Sal Rezai , Director and Founder at
Accounting by Sal Corp
What services does Accounting by Sal offer?
We offer accounting, bookkeeping, accounting software training, DIY bookkeeping, bookkeeping courses, QuickBooks online training and accounting support across Canada and the US. We have clients in every province in Canada and in the US, mainly in California.
How did you come up with the idea to start Accounting by Sal, and what purpose did you intend to serve with the concept?
I had a vision to provide financial stability, help businesses set and reach their goals, and make sure that taxes are paid on time, to mention a few aspects of my vision. Without these, a business will struggle to stay afloat. My goal and aim is to assist small businesses by providing accurate, up-to-date financial information about their business and use the specialized technology available for this purpose, effectively and efficiently.
Which milestones have marked meeting benchmarks towards the fulfillment of your personal goals/ the company's vision and goals?
Accounting by Sal Corp is BBB A+ rated now, 5 star reviews on google and other platforms and Top Choice Award winner in 2023.
Which steps have you taken for the company to achieve the level of consumer trust that has been nationally recognized?
At Accounting by Sal Corp, we provide the best customer service, care and dedication, and we uphold our commitments.
We share positive reviews and testimonials, and transparency is our priority.
During my training and DIY bookkeeping services, I ask for feedback and act accordingly.
We are easily reachable, and we have a 12-hr email response time.
What part of your education or other experiences do you feel was the most helpful in preparing you for success?
I credit my bookkeeping experience, my accounting/bookkeeping diploma and my teaching/training experience, as well as my continuous learning.
Which strategies have you found the most effective in growing your audience/ bringing awareness of your service to a larger consumer group?
At an earlier stage it was all social media engagement that helped me reach out to a broader audience. Now, networking helps me, and referrals help me. I have also built a brand that most people now know very well, and I have a niche that has also helped me reach out to many more that comprise a similar audience.
Which partnerships, if any, have been the most constructive in bringing your goals closer to becoming a reality?
Consistency and being persistent have been key.
Are there any challenges that made it difficult to continue operation and that you managed to overcome? What was your approach to get past these?
The challenge I faced is to find the right team member with the right education and experience. as well as with the right behavior. I have overcome the challenge now, because I created a list of custom interview questions to test if the candidate has the right experience and education. I have created a live bookkeeping quiz / test. If the potential candidate passes the first interview, I invite them to the second interview. During the second interview, the candidate handles certain bookkeeping tasks and a quiz, live, via Zoom with me.
How do you balance work, passions/hobbies, and relationships?
As Jana Kingsford said,
"Balance is not something you find; it's something you create."
I have a few mantras:
I prioritize my time and allocate it for my passions, I set goals and achieve them, and I stay committed and consistent. These are a few of the ways I create balance.
On evenings and weekends, especially Sundays, I unplug from technology and social media. I spend more time in person with family and friends.
Learn to say ‘No’ to things which are insignificant.
I don't wait for the right moment or opportunity; live today, live everyday!
I always remind myself that pursuing one’s passion gives a sense of fulfillment, contentment and overall, gives a purpose to life.
What are your future plans to build on your personal/ company achievements and fulfill your vision for success/ what developments can your audience or clientele look forward to expecting next?
I want to open up a bookkeeping academy to train and coach others on how to start their bookkeeping business. I would also train on how to best hire more team members to take care of their clients' bookkeeping needs.
