Teen Trailblazers: Mick, Dylan, and Aric Nagra - Young Founders Redefining Sports Safety and Sustainability

In this edition of Winner Magazine's "Brilliant Youth" series, we shine the spotlight on three extraordinary brothers whose achievements extend far beyond their years. Dylan, Mick, and Aric Nagra exemplify what it means to be future leaders, innovators, and community advocates. Their impressive accomplishments in sports, academics, and social initiatives demonstrate a unique blend of talent, dedication, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world around them.

While most teenage boys are playing video games, Dylan, Mick, and Aric Nagra are pioneering future innovations. The 14-year-old brothers are exceptional high-level competitive soccer players whose dedication to the sport goes beyond their impressive on-field skills. Over a year ago, during a soccer game, they experienced a moment that would profoundly impact their future endeavors. They witnessed their teammate sustain a devastating tibial fracture due to a blow to the shin. This injury not only shook them but also highlighted a significant need for better protective gear in soccer. Determined to prevent such injuries from happening again, the brothers embarked on a mission to design and produce their own shin guards. Utilizing higher quality materials and innovative designs, they developed a new shape and structure for the guards to significantly reduce the risk of tibial fractures. Their efforts have paid off, and they now have a patent pending for their groundbreaking shin guards.

Commitment to Community

In addition to their commitment to improving sports safety, Dylan, Mick, and Aric are deeply involved in giving back to the community. They are actively engaged with the Special Olympics, where they assist individuals with special needs in playing sports of their choice. They founded a nonprofit organization called Beyond Boundaries Soccer. As CEO, founders, and coaches, they provide soccer coaching free of charge, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from sports. They offer adapted soccer, which is built on the principle of inclusivity, breaking down barriers that traditionally limited participation in mainstream soccer. It creates an open and welcoming space for individuals with disabilities, ensuring that they can experience the joy, camaraderie, and numerous physical and mental benefits that the sport offers. Beyond Boundaries Soccer is an inclusive organization providing opportunities for individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to engage in soccer without financial barriers. The programs cater to a wide range of disabilities, ensuring full participation for everyone, such as individuals who are amputees, wheelchair-bound, visually impaired, hearing impaired, or have learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, or autism spectrum disorder.

Environmental Sustainability

Their passion for making a difference extends to environmental sustainability as well. The brothers founded and are CEOs of Green Teen Generation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing environmental awareness and sustainability among youth. One of their major initiatives is a nationwide plastics reduction campaign, aimed at fostering a more eco-conscious mindset in the younger generation. Through this campaign, they hope to inspire others to take action for a safer and cleaner planet. Their mission is to reduce plastic consumption in schools, challenge industry norms, and ignite a passion for sustainability among today's teenagers. They are scheduled to be facilitators and speakers at a Global Youth Summit with other speakers from all over the world at the end of this year to empower youth in combating environmental challenges and enable a platform for youth to lend their voices toward environmental sustainability and climate change.

Academic Excellence

Despite their busy schedules, Dylan, Mick, and Aric excel academically and are recognized for their intellectual talents. They discovered their love for soccer at the tender age of three and have since balanced their athletic pursuits with academic excellence. They have taken piano lessons, participate in the chess club, and compete in math olympiads while taking high-level Russian math since they were young, showcasing their versatility and dedication to continuous learning.

Sports Achievements

They all three started their soccer journey on a town team and then soon thereafter joined Strikers United from 2017 to 2019. This club had improved their game significantly, but they switched clubs to New England Futbol Club (NEFC) in 2010, which they currently play for as they were more challenged playing a year up their first year with them. They were then invited to play in the Elite Club National League (ECNL-R), one of the higher levels, and have also been invited to the FC Stars ECNL 1 team, Bolts USL Academy team for the under 18/19 team, 2009 National League (NL), and National Academy League (NAL) team. Even though they had declined their invitation due to excessive travel, they were really grateful to be given that opportunity. Dylan consistently plays as a goalkeeper, while Mick as a center-midfielder and Aric as a striker. They were also part of a travel team in the Acton Boxborough (AB) division 1A (highest division) for three years, but stopped playing travel to make more time for club soccer. They also were on the AB Galaxy soccer team. Not only do they play soccer, but they also took formal tennis lessons until 2023 for about nine years and participated in competitive tennis. Furthermore, they all joined Rick Kilpatrick’s Elevation Basketball Club and the Community Education Basketball League, where they were in the top teams, two years in a row since grade six, leading to varsity in grade eight.

Innovative Technology

The brothers are now learning coding skills and working on an innovative app designed to detect certain oral and cutaneous cancers, further demonstrating their commitment to leveraging technology for the betterment of society. Their diverse interests and accomplishments highlight their exceptional drive to make a positive impact in various fields, from sports safety and community service to environmental sustainability and medical technology.
